During fumigation, a leak of toxic gases such as methyl bromide, sulfuryl fluoride or phosphine poses a serious threat to the lives of operators and to the surrounding environment. Toxic fumigation gas detectors act as precise monitors that guard fumigation safety at all times.
Core function: real-time monitoring and prevention before the event. The core function of a fumigation gas detector is to monitor the concentration of toxic gas in the fumigation environment in real time. It captures even slight changes in concentration and, when the preset safety threshold is exceeded, immediately gives an audible and visual alarm so that operators can stop the operation, evacuate personnel and increase ventilation, effectively preventing poisoning and environmental pollution.
Common types: portable gas detectors are small and light enough to be carried by the operator. Using high-precision sensors, they detect several toxic fumigants quickly, usually within seconds, and are used for pre-operation checks, in-process patrols and residual gas testing. Fixed gas detectors are installed at key positions of the fumigation system, monitor concentration around the clock and transmit data to the control system by cable or wirelessly. When an exceedance is detected they trigger the alarm system and can interlock with ventilation equipment to take emergency measures automatically.
Technical features: the sensors used have extremely high sensitivity and can detect very low concentrations — a good sensor can reliably detect methyl bromide at concentrations as low as 0.1 ppm, so that even a minor leak is found in time. Higher-specification instruments also record and analyse data, storing concentration readings and alarm times so that operators can review them on a PC or mobile app, understand concentration trends and use them as a basis for optimising fumigation procedures and assessing safety risks.
Application scenarios: besides methyl bromide fumigation chambers, these detectors are widely used in grain warehouse fumigation, where they monitor phosphine concentration to protect warehouse staff, and in wood fumigation, where they monitor the treatment environment in real time to ensure both treatment effect and operational safety.
