Methyl Bromide Fumigation Chambers: A Powerful Weapon for Pest Control

As global trade becomes ever more frequent, the cross-border transport of goods is extremely common. This also creates more opportunities for the spread of pests. How it works: methyl bromide is a highly toxic fumigant with strong diffusion and penetration properties. At room temperature it is a colourless, odourless, transparent liquid; above 3.5 °C it evaporates rapidly into a gas three times heavier than air. Inside the sealed chamber the gas diffuses in all directions without blind spots and easily penetrates every corner of the cargo, including the internal grain of timber, the gaps between agricultural products and the fine pores of packaging materials.

Its mechanism of action is mainly to interfere with the physiological metabolism of pests. Methyl bromide molecules react chemically with important biological macromolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids, damaging their structure and function and ultimately causing the pests to die. By precisely controlling concentration, fumigation time, temperature and humidity, efficient and thorough disinfection of different pest species can be achieved.

Application scenarios: in the import and export of agricultural products such as grain, cereals, fruit and vegetables, fumigation kills potential pests, pathogens and harmful microorganisms. In the timber and wood products industry, fumigation removes pests such as termites and longhorn beetles from the interior and surface of wood. Wooden packaging materials such as crates and pallets can also carry pests, so fumigation of packaging cuts off the transmission route. Herbs and seeds are treated in the same way to guarantee their quality and safety.

Through the coordinated operation of spiral pipes, pressure balancing tanks and gas flow meters, the methyl bromide is fully vaporised before entering the chamber and diffuses in a stable, even gaseous form to every area, ensuring consistent and reliable fumigation results.
